The CUB seeks to sustain and build on the organizational synergies generated out of the struggle to stop the Pepco takeover by Exelon. CUB has adopted eight principles:
Utility bills individually and collectively are not burdensome.
Regulatory and legislative processes relative to utilities are transparent and provide a seat at the table for ratepayers and consumers.
Services are community driven and the community owns and produces them to the extent possible.
Ratepayers, taxpayers, and residents are the primary beneficiaries of legislative and regulatory processes relative to utilities.
Services are readily available to all income groups.
Public participation is on an equal footing with utilities and corporations in all proceedings of the Public Service Commission and DC Water.
The utility infrastructure and technology are modern and maintained, and deployed in ways that meet the community's needs and goals and sustain the environment.
Customer service is best-in-class.
